Optimism Grows Following MOD’S MIV Announcement

4th April 2018

The UK MoD’s announcement of its procurement strategy for the British Army’s MIV (Mechanised Infantry Vehicle) programme is welcome news.

The selection of the BOXER 8×8 armoured vehicle would be a state-of-the-art addition to the British vehicle fleet, bringing the return of military vehicle manufacturing to Tyneside a step closer and generating significant opportunities for both the North East and UK wide supply chain.

Reece Group is discussing building the drive module for ARTEC, a joint venture owned by Krauss-Maffei Wegmann and Rheinmetall.

John Reece, executive chairman, Reece Group, said: “Part of my vision when buying Armstrong Works, where the British Army’s Challenger and Warrior tanks were built, was to bring armoured vehicle manufacture back to Newcastle and this has now come a step closer.

“This is a major, exciting project which will create and safeguard jobs at Reece Group, including apprenticeships, as well as generating opportunities in the wider supply chain.”
