Rapid Manufacturing Services (RMS) Expands Team Following Contract Wins
21st May 2019
RMS, part of Responsive Engineering and the Reece Group, invested in a new facility in the Port of Blyth to provide bespoke fabrication and welding services to the North East’s growing offshore energy sector.
Its quayside location in Bates Terminal – a 17-hectare “super-terminal” that combines the former Bates and Wimbourne Quays – also makes it ideally positioned to provide services for the mobilisation and demobilisation of vessels.
Following contract wins with customers both in the port and beyond, the firm is recruiting more skilled engineers to meet the growing demand.
Graeme Campbell, director, RMS, said: “We’ve had a very positive first few months in the Port of Blyth. There are some fantastic global companies based here who are at the forefront of the offshore energy and renewable industries.
“The planned development of Bates Terminal is going to create even more opportunities as the port continues to grow.
“Our team have been manufacturing products for these sectors for many years, but we wanted to bring our skills closer to our customers and it was certainly the right move for us.
“We’re seeing a strong demand for our bespoke and quick-turnaround services. No two jobs are ever the same and our engineers apply their expert knowledge to solve each unique engineering challenge.”
Energy Central is a fully operational hub made up of world-leading organisations, skills and infrastructure, with key partners including Advance Northumberland, Port of Blyth, the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult (ORE) and Northumberland County Council.
The port also recently announced details of its five-year investment plan for Bates Terminal.
“It is great to see companies such as Reece Group and RMS investing in new facilities and creating new jobs here at the port and recognising the huge potential of the site and the offshore sector to the future of the regional economy.”
